What is an estate agent?
The purpose of an estate agent is to connect people who are looking to buy or rent properties with those who have them available.
It may therefore be required to handle transactions, to search for accommodation for someone or to recruit a tenant for a landlord. It can also act as an intermediary to help solve problems between owners and tenants.
Note: the real estate profession is highly regulated. An agent must hold an official card allowing it to make real estate transactions and/or conduct property management. To obtain this card it must prove it is run professionally (accounting, management etc.), has financial guarantees and is covered by liability insurance.
